How Blockchain can change the Marketing world – Call to Traction31. December 2018
If you are not sure why to attend a conference or an Offline Event, then you probably will not have recognized the value. Conferences and events are what you make of them. And good preparation is crucial. So take the nuggets with you to feel yourself comfortable on spot.
Take the time and get a few hints to make your next attendance at a conference or event relaxed and efficient.
Prepare your business cards. If they are already a little older, consider whether it is time to give them a fresh touch. In any case, they should stand out and tell who you are and what makes you so special. Do not walk around and wedge with your card, or push it into your hand. If a conversation partner is interested in further contact with you, he will let you know.
Think of what equipment you need besides your business cards. It should be as light and compact as possible that you do not get sweaty already arriving at the conference. Think about what you want to share with others besides your business card.
Preparation time on site
Be on site in time before the start of the conference. This will save you a lot of stress. You can already look around the location, so that you know it and can help others to eventually come into a conversation.
Contents and Speakers
Study the program and plan which of the talks you want to visit. Connect with the speakers on social media. If you have comprehensible and interesting topics which you would like to exchange with the speaker, then contact him beforehand by mail and make an appointment for a lunch, coffee or dinner together.
Do not fill your participation plan to the limit. Leave buffer time, so as not to rush from one lecture to the next. This makes it possible for you not to have to watch the clock constantly during conversations.
Perhaps you have already thought about contributing to a conference. Prepare relevant content at an early stage, and send a nice pitch to the organizers. Even if it is not a keynote speech, there are also smaller stages and rounds, in which you can contribute as an expert in a field.
Be a front-seater, because that has several advantages. You can see and hear the speaker and his possible slideshow better. In addition, you are one of the first to come into conversation with the speaker just after a lecture.
Lunch, Dinner or Meeting
Plan and arrange already with interesting contacts that you meet for lunch or a meeting in an undisturbed area on the edge of the conference. If you visit the event with friends or your team, then plan to have lunch together. Right here, each of you can take the opportunity to have a conversation in a casual setting.
Parties and Events
Usually very decisive moments, the important conversations and more are happening at the after-parties. But even during the day, organized events are taking place, which are becoming ever more popular and are therefore an excellent way to prepare for quality discussions. If few or none of these social events are offered, consider whether it is an opportunity for you to organize such a social event.
At the parties there are a few things to consider. Do not squat out everything you heard. Even if people are in a slightly alcoholic state, you should not push them to information.
Prepare a short elevator pitch about YOU. Think about being "pleasantly differently than anyone else". The minimum content should be: Your name, what are you doing and why you are here. Less than 30 seconds. Easy, right?
Look for quality, not quantity in your networking activities. Scheduling a number of 100 conversations to take as many business cards as possible is more counterproductive. Talk to speakers, organizers and competitors.
A meeting with the organizers of the conference gives you the chance to profit from in the future. They are usually hardly noticed at the conference and feel a conversation as very valuable. They know exactly where the private after-parties take place.
Talking to your competitors in terms of networking is also a great way. They can also make recommendations if you build and maintain a real relationship here.
Go to Check In
The preparation is already the most important part for successfully attending conferences. Check out what works for you and what doesn't. Get out of your comfort zone where wonderful things are happening.
